Some people have asked when and why did I want to buy a Corvette.

Approximately 10 years ago I said to my wife Cathy that I wanted to buy a muscle car or hot rod. Corvettes had always been of interest to me from a long time ago. Some would say it was a mid life crisis but I answer with something different. At the time I was working closely with my boss at work who was fighting Leukaemia. Sadly, he passed away at the age of 44 years leaving three daughters behind. The fight that he showed taught me many things but most importantly, If there is something in life that you want to do and if you can afford to do it, don't put it off as you don't know what is around the corner. Cathy did not question why I wanted to buy a car.

I told a close friend of mine and he said that he would keep an eye out. Some 12 months later he rang me while I was away working to say that there was a Corvette up for auction that very night. I said that I would not be able to make it and that I would have to keep looking. On my return to the city I called into the auction house to ask a few questions and mentioned that I had missed out on the Corvette. To my amazement they said it was still available through the original seller based in the city. I then called in to the dealer and arranged to take the car for a test drive on the Saturday with my friend. Having taken the car for a drive, I asked the dealer if I could bring Cathy back in the afternoon, to take her for a drive. After that drive I said to the dealer that I would come back in first thing on Monday morning to talk further.

I arrived on the Monday to find the dealer on the phone talking to someone else that had looked at the car on Saturday. We started talking on price and his phone again rang with someone calling from the country who was about to come to the city to buy the car without having looked at it. Finally, we managed to agree on a price and the rest is now history.

Since joining the club we have had many fun times and have created some friendships that we truly value. That was over 8 years ago and I have to say apart from the odd issue the car has been great. The only issue I have is that I don't get to drive it as often as I would like.
