BeerSmith Earl of Leicester - 7th January 2018

Tony & Faye's run to Earl of Leicester

Sunday 7th January 2018, first run for the New Year started at the Nest Cafe at Walkerville. Fourteen Corvettes carrying 27 club members met prior to departure at 10:00 am. The run was to travel up to Birdwood via Houghton, completing a questionnaire as we travelled, [on completion, prizes were to be awarded to the highest score, second place and an encouragement award for last place]. As occupants needed to see various landmarks and points of interest that answered the questions, we travelled at a leisurely pace.
We left The Nest and meandered up through Lower North East Rd, through Paradise, Houghton, Gumeracha and arrived in Birdwood. A group of Lotus enthusiasts reached the Pomegranate Cafe before us.

We departed Birdwood [where the van Doorns left us for another engagement] and headed down through Mt Torrens and Woodside [where the Falconers & Mac (the cute puppy) turned off]. Continuing on to Uraidla we cruised down Greenhill Rd, enjoying the scenery while still a bit green, ending our cruise at The Earl of Leicester in Leicester St, Parkside.
A fine fare of pub food was enjoyed by all in a relaxed welcoming environment. All enjoyed their meals. Quiz results. First Place;- John & Jenny, Runner Up;- Peter B. & Chris, Encouragement Award;- Lynda & Peter.

Was a great day, with good company and an excellent turnout for the first run of the year. Seems all enjoyed the venues, the pace, the distance and the food. It was suggested that a quiz run be an annual event as this was the third year in a row??

The only snag was that Peter's car ran out of water somewhere, luckily the temperature was lower than the day before or it could have caused overheating and possible damage.

Thanks to all who attended and made it a great run. Cheers Faye & Tony.

AUSSIE DAY RUN 2018 - 26th January 2018

OUI OUI OUI
Even though it was supposed to be 36 degrees { better than the 40 degrees forecast}
We had 19 cars, 42 people turn up for the day. We still had 10 corvettes with
the rest opting to take cars with good ACs.
As we left McDonalds it started to rain which made for a pleasant temp to drive.
The cruise took us up the freeway following the old Eagle on the Hill road down through
Crafers, Piccadilly, Summertown, Oakbank, Nairne, Kanmantoo, Callington & then back down the freeway to Adelaide.
We finished back at our house for a cold Aussie Day lunch supplied by the club. We even had a visit from Hans & Val later in the afternoon. For all the predictions of the extreme heat, it ended up being pleasant so we were able to sit outside enjoying one another's company.
Thanks to all who came & enjoyed the day.

All American Day - 18th February 2018

We had 15 cars meet up at TTP for the run to Tilley Reserve for this year’s All  Americian  Day car show. The day started out  fine & the oval was jammed packed with cars, bikes, rods, trucks, but at about 1pm it started to rain & this is where OUR entertainment started. You see Alan had left his roof panels home & he had not thought to look at the weather forecast.

I think we will always see his roof panels attached to the rack on the back of his car from now on.

APRIL AUTUMN RUN - 2018

Well Sunday morning definitely had an autumnal feel about it with light drizzle as we made our way to Tea Tree Plaza ready for the day ahead.
A small group of dedicated members weren't put off by the wet weather and after a quick coffee we were all ready to hit the road. Given the windy weather the day before we thought it would be wise to take things a bit cautiously as we didn't know how many tree branches etc would be strewn over the roads.
4 Corvettes and 2 other cars set off towards Chain of Ponds before cutting across to Forreston then back towards Birdwood and then on to Lobethal. Unfortunately the views which can usually be seen from these roads where non-existent due to the cloud but it was still a nice drive through the hills.
Our first stop was at the Woodside Heritage Centre where we all filed into Melbas Chocolate Factory to have a look and try out the free samples. Seems Debbie must be preparing for the zombie apocalypse as she was seen carrying out a year's supply of liquorice! We then moved across to the Woodside Cheese Wrights where we got to taste lots of different styles of cheese and spreads etc.
The time came to hit the road again as we took the scenic route through to Verdun to our lunch destination at the Stanley Bridge Tavern. The pub was very busy and we were forced to do the obligatory U-turn in the carpark as it was full.
The rest of the run was spent in the usual manner, a good feed, a couple of quiet drinks and a nice chat with our fellow club members.
Thanks to everyone who made the effort to come out for the day we hope you all enjoyed it!!
Cheers, Breck & Helen Falconer

Classic & Vintage Car Rally at McLaren Vale - April 2018

Had a wonderful day on the weekend 21st & 22nd April at the Classic & Vintage Car Rally at McLaren Vale. As far as I could tell I was one of two members of The Corvette Club, there were only 4 vettes out of 500 to 600 cars. One red C3 was driven by Tom. I  stayed overnight at Serafino`s so as to get a good position and avoid a 2 hour drive early Sunday morning, rooms were very nice. A very well organised event.  I put my C5 right at the front of the Chevy row, hoping other Corvettes would turn up soon, however I was surrounded by Commodores and MX5`s, the other 3 Vettes were way back in the distance. On arrival were were all given a "goody bag" with usual sponsers discount cards etc and a lovely brass plaque. Whilst having breakfast at Seraphinos met Colin Bond who was sitting alone, we had a bit of a chat, unfortunately he didn't remember me when I last chatted to him in the 70`s when he was in the "Endrust Car rally". I was an official and he allowed a photo of me with him, he was here to give a talk on the Saturday night, he had his original Escort Rally car there too. It was a very hot day, which started at 8.30 am, and the last cars arrived after 10.30, at 11.00 we all proceeded to the main street which was packed hundreds of very vocal spectators. After a slow drive through town, each group peeled off at different places and ended up at different venues for lunch, Chevys and Pontiacs etc went to Angoves winery, Greek style food from a van! Some old hands took their own picnics. Experience does pay!
