For this cruise, we decided on lunch 1st at the Tailem Bend Hotel in the main street. Then we went to Old Tailem Town, so there was no restriction on how long we spent there. This worked out well.
So, back to the start. Nice sunny morning, meeting at Maccas for coffee & other healthy chips, sammies & burgers to start the day off.
Checking out the cars arriving, I noticed a new Red C8. Now Gary & Cathy were away, & Angelo wasn’t there. Hmm?? It turned out that the newer club members had only picked up their car at 5:00 pm the night before. They decided to join us on our Saturday run. Welcome Graham & Marie Rudloff. These guys are very keen, keen, keen. After the briefing we headed up the freeway, turning off & cruising through the main street of Hahndorf. Anyone sleeping in was woken by 11 Corvettes cruising through their town. We took the Old Princes Hwy through to Murray Bridge, picking up Ruth, Stuart & Serge at the Blob at Mt Barker turn off. Was a beautiful run through the hills on the old road. Basically no traffic, stopped at Murray Bridge by the Bunyip to stretch the legs & check out the river levels & flow. Back on the road, we stopped at Frank Jackman lookout for a photo shoot. Continued on to Tailem Bend Hotel where we met Greg, Chrissy, Rob Butler & Karen for lunch. After a leisurely lunch most of us continued to Old Tailem Town which is a recreation of the early Aussie Town layout. It has been put together over many years by a family that wanted to preserve history. It is worth a visit. As you can see by the photos, it’s not just old buildings, cars, memorabilia; you will also see a prisoner & a dunce there for entertainment.
In total, we had 24 people take part in the day. As some people said it was good to do the entertainment after lunch as it made for a full day out with great company & many laughs. It makes the day really enjoyable when we can all have a laugh.
Thanks to all who came along. Pete & Lyn.
