Corvettes at the Port - 14th February 2016
Article by Laurie Witts, Peter McBride & Breck Falconer 28-Feb-16 |
We started setting up at 7:45am and then Corvettes started to arrive. With the help of David, Pete, Lynda, John, Jenny and Margaret with a few from the Chev Club Neville and Christine all went well. The food and coffee van arrived along with the band and then the party started. We had 60 Corvettes covering all generations (except C7) and some we had not seen before. A couple of members renewed their membership and we also had 3 new members join. Welcome to our 3 newest members, Graham with a '85 coupe, Robert with a '56 roadster and Jack with his '91 coupe. As the day progressed a number of members took advantage of the free entry to the Aviation Museum (which was funded by the Corvette Club) to have a look around the many aircraft on display while others just sat back and enjoyed the sounds of the band 'Reload' and the chance to chat with the public and other members of the club. We think a certain OneSteel member believes he has been culled from the club, but it is only a rumour even though a dream for a few. As always the COWS (Corvettes of Whyalla) led by their navigationally challenged leader Gus made themselves welcome and we all caught up with the gossip. We had 5 great raffle prizes from Sharon (Foundation Shine). The 'Entrant's Choice' trophy went to Spiro Spyropoulos with his beautiful '63 and Allan Norsworthy received the 'Public Choice' award with his '68. Tom Stanef received the 'Seagull's Choice' award with a display of precision bombing by our feathered friends targeting his car………...perhaps the shock of seeing it out of the garage caused them to crap themselves! We would like to thank all those that came and supported the club for this our annual show 'n' shine event and all those that helped out on the day. A final thanks must also go to the SA Aviation Museum for allowing us to use their grounds. |
