CCSA AUSTRALIA DAY CRUISE - 26th January 2016

To celebrate this great country of ours, the club held an Australia Day Cruise down to the beautiful South Coast. Organised by “Team Bling”, ‘Peter & Lynda’ we all met at Hungry Jacks on Anzac Hwy. It was great to see so many Vettes come out and with such a great weather forecast, it was no wonder. After using Hungry Jacks toilets and clogging up their drive through, we were on our way after a quick run down by Pete. Down to Marion Road and up the Southern Expressway and back onto South Road, we only managed to cause chaos about six times with the traffic around us. Oh well, we all survived. Up past the Victory Hotel, we turned off and headed towards the Southern beaches. The beaches looked great, filled to capacity with cars and families enjoying the day. The queue of traffic coming towards us wanting to get onto the beaches had to be seen to be believed. We need bigger beaches!! Anyhow, the people waiting in their cars and sitting on the balconies of their esplanade houses appreciated the site of close to twenty Vettes rumbling the road. Plenty of waves and everyone was in good spirits. We were heading back up the coast sticking to the esplanades where we could and aiming for the McBrides house at West Beach. We lost sight of Laurie & Margaret plus Jim & Catherine when Lauries car popped a pooper valve. Never good. They said they would catch up after a quick tweak. Meanwhile, I missed a turn near Lonsdale so decided to fly up to Hallett Cove and re-join the cruise there. Jim & & Catherine somehow caught up in between and Catherine sent us a text bragging they were now in front of us only to drive over a hill to see us pull back in behind Pete – in front of them. It was then ‘game on’ to get to West Beach first. Only because I had to give way to an elderly old lady, they won. Once at Peter & Lyndas, we all settled down for the afternoon eatin’ & drinkin’. We had “Cookie Boy” Sean, Jim “Don’t call me sauce” and Bob “where’s the lamb” Butler on the two BBQs doing a great job. Loads of tucker and great cakes supplied by Karina. Then there were the clean up angels at the end. “Thanks”, you guys. The BIG THANKYOU has to go to the McBrides. Where would we be without these guy’s. It was a great run and a great destination on a great day. Well done. |
