Slot car racing on the 9th June at the Adelaide Hills Slot Car Racing Track – Lobethal. It was a fresh start to a Sunday morning with a 9am start at a new meeting location being the Frewville shopping centre, where we met the Mustang club aswell, fortunately for some that had a big night was across the road from the Arkaba hotel. A coffee start was an issue as the coffee shop was closed which provided us with our first challenge. When all the members that were expected from both clubs had arrived, we left and made our way up the freeway to Lobethal. The first task was to register all racers and place them into groups of 8. This was challenging on its own. The racing was done on the main track that had 8 lanes each of a different colour with matching little Volkswagen beetle cars which proved to be a real handful. When the racing began each racer had a number of laps on each lane to get an overall time and number of laps as an average. As one group was racing, all others that where available did the car marshalling. Being such a large track a group of 15 had the task of putting the little suckers back on the track. While Jenny and Laurie had their work cut out for them in the middle section, some had the colour of cars mixed up on different tracks, thinking they were driving a different car, Kevin had wiring issues with his controller being pulled out by a little koala and little brother. (The 3 stooges) With those three having their own issues, there were plenty of people around shouting instructions when a car had come off the track. After the racing lunch was in the Lobethal hotel where there was a slight mix up of the lunch booking for 36, having 26 positions set up and having a total of 48 in attendance. As lunch was being cooked and caught, the results where read out having three people with the exact same average time and number of laps. The decider was made for first second and third by pulling names from my hat by the local barmaidthat saw the Mustang club take out the first and second place trophies donated by each club and third prize was a bottle of white donated by the Lobethal hotel also won by the Mustang club. The Corvette club donated a small activity bag that had little colouring in pencils and a book which Kevin won because he missed his wife. Not a good day for the Corvette racers L but we all had a blast and sure will do it all again.
