My Corvette Story … by Anthony Saba Ask any Corvette owner and they'll probably all tell you a similar story. That owning their Corvette is the result of a long life dream or wish of always wanting one. Well, I guess my story is no different. My first car was a 1977 HX Monaro which I kept in absolutely fantastic condition. I bought it for $8K and sold it for $10K five years later. Nice little profit you may say? But it took my (late) father to remind me that I'd sunk well over $10K into that car over the years just to keep it looking that good. Anyway, once that was gone, I couldn't just go back to driving any old car, and so, I took a drive out to Joe's Golden Gasoline's car yard. There it was, a yellow 1971 Stingray. Naturally, it was left hand drive and so, had it converted by Martin Waddingham of 'Corvette Conversion Centre'. He did a wonderful job, and the car is still driving brilliantly to this day (gee I hope I haven't just jinxed myself???). |

Over the years I haven't had to do much to the car at all. It's pretty much as I bought it, apart from having a new paint job (as a result of someone rear ending me - one should never drive whilst texting people!!!!) But it's now a very nice "golden" War Bonnet Yellow. I have now owned my car for just over 12 years and been a member of the Corvette Club of SA for just over 6 years. I've had many great miles driving my car and have met a lot of wonderful people in the club. I am also lucky enough to own a Hot Rod. It's a T-Bucket running a 307 Chev engine, Turbo 350 trans and a 9 inch diff. It took around eleven years of building (off and on) and is the other car in 'my shed…' |
